Being a fruit, you would think that Sweet Lime, also called Mosambi in some part of the world, is probably not the best option to lose weight.
The Latin name of this fruit is Citrus limetta.
Still, as a citrus fruit with not so high a glycemic index, sweet lime and sweet lime juice can actually be helpful to maintain good health and be fit and slim.
Especially if you are looking for ways to avoid processed foods or foods packed with too much sugar in them.
And mosambi is nutritious and healthy, and can help, at least in the initial phases of your transition toward a more sustainable and healthy diet.

The Nutritional Facts about Sweet Lime
Probably the most valuable nutrient in Sweet lime is Vitamin C. This is no surprise for a citrus fruit, and lemon juice, lime juice, and orange juice all have a lot of Vitamin C. Vitamin C will help you improve your immune system. It is a powerful antioxidant that brings in its ability to fight free radicals.
Sweet Lime will help you hydrate your body in a beautiful way, and it works great for improving the quality of your skin and hair.
Moreover, Sweet lime is great for digestive problems, like constipation, peptic ulcer, and heartburn. It can also help prevent some of the more difficult health conditions, such as arthritis and even cancer.
A serving size of 100 grams of Sweet Lime contains only about 45 calories. And this is good news.
What’s not so good that there are 12 grams of carbs (out of which about 7 grams of sugar). The majority of the calories are coming from the digestible carbohydrates.
On the other hand, Sweet Lime belongs to the group of low glycemic foods with a GI rating below 55. This also is a good new, because when you try to lose weight, you should avoid rapid spikes of blood sugar caused by eating foods with high GI.
If you want to use Mosambi juice for weight loss, then you should limit your carb intake elsewhere. For aggressive weight loss, the rule of a thumb is to consume no more than 50 grams of net carbs within 24 hours. This is really a low limit, so you may find that every gram counts.
Sweet Lime also contains 140 mg of potassium (which is a great nutrient) and 2 mg of sodium per serving size.
Sweet Lime For Weight Loss
As we already pointed out, Sweet lime can be a good start because it is a relatively healthy citrus fruit, not overly sweet.
It can certainly help you lose weight, but in what way? The most important thing is to replace some of the highly processed foods with this natural source of nutrients.
The reason you presently need to shed some extra pounds is probably consuming too much of the commercial foods, packed with sugar, fructose, and refined vegetable oils. If that’s the case, this juicy fruit should not be used in addition to it, but rather instead of it.
So is sweet lime juice good for losing some pounds? The answer is “It depends“. If you use it to satiate huger and keep your hands away from other carb-based foods in any form, then yes, by all means.
The other useful application of this juice is to be consumed instead of your usual snacks. You see, one of the secrets of successful weight loss is to have at least 3.5 to 4 hours between meals without any food.
But this rule is usually hard to keep. If you are among those who find it impossible to live without snacks, then swap them for sweet lime juice. It is very low on calories, it has low GI, and can keep your cravings at bay.
In Mosambi you will also find some dietary fiber, as well. If you are juicing, don’t throw away the pulp, because precisely there you will find the beneficial fiber. Take it together with the extracted juice. The fiber will increase your fullness and feed the beneficial bacteria in your guts, which are also crucial to shedding pounds.
While most experts recommend drinking sweet lime juice in the morning, I don’t think that’s the best approach. It’s much better to drink it during the day, and in the evening. Let your morning be carbs free.
Even better, you should mix this juice with water, so its impact on the blood sugar spikes is even lower.
An important point. Don’t sweeten your Mosambi juice. It defeats the point. Don’t use artificial sweeteners either. They are often worse than sugar. Drink it straight, or if you absolutely have to, use stevia. That’s the only way you can see some impact on your weight.
The Bottom Line
As sweet lime is relatively low in calories, it can be beneficial for weight loss.
A diet based on this citrus fruit alone is not a wise choice, as you will be missing a lot of other important nutrients. Because of that, you should use it as a healthy snack replacement, or even better, a meal replacement.
Mosambi doesn’t contain too much carbs and sugars, so you can use it the next time you had the desire to eat highly addictive processed food.
And not only will you lose weight, you will get a lot of health benefits, hydrate your body, and detoxify it.
You shouldn’t forget that all citrus fruits are alkaline, although it might not appear so at first sight. While they may seem acidic in the mouth, they are alkaline after being metabolized in the guts.
All in all, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t use Mosambi Sweet Lime to your everyday diet. You will strengthen your immunity and general health, while also shedding pounds. A win win combination.
