Pomelo Juice and Cardio Workouts: My Allies in My Journey to End Obesity

Do calories make you happy? If people asked me that question before, my answer would be a direct and heartfelt, “Yes!” I mean, who doesn’t become happy by buying a box of doughnuts, seeing an elegant chocolate tiramisu, or merely thinking of ice cream? At least, that’s how I used to think. I thought that all of those treats were heavenly and to die for! I was so obsessed with food that if there was a rehab for foodies, just like an alcohol rehab for alcoholics, I certainly would have been admitted there. In the past, I was someone who didn’t care what she put in her mouth. I was born fat. I grew up fat. I finished college fat. I was so used to being obese that I couldn’t imagine what I was missing in life. It was only after I was diagnosed with a fatty liver, high cholesterol, and borderline diabetes that I began to reconsider my eating choices. Eventually, I realized that I was eating to deal with my emotions, not to satisfy my bodily needs. Sometimes eating or feeling famished is not about food. We often eat when we are lonely, frustrated, sad, or angry. We […]

Water Therapy: How Water Can Cure Addiction

It was 5 years ago when Earl (not his real name) showed up at my office a week after a workshop we had both attended. I was at the workshop on an invitation to talk about my experiences having worked as a counselor and social worker working with people struggling with drug addiction. Earl was there to get help with his addiction to alcohol. He had been a user for 8 years and had tried various rehabilitation programs with little success. In his account of the problems he was experiencing, rehab seemed to work, but fallible. Increasingly often, the medication did not help him much to beat withdrawal symptoms. He was particularly concerned about withdrawal symptoms that left him in constant pain even after taking medications prescribed by his therapist. Apart from strong occasional urges to drink, his withdrawal was causing him headaches, extremely sweaty nights, nausea, and constipation. These symptoms had left him desperate and almost resigning from rehabilitation. Was it worth receiving treatment for addiction when alcohol seemed the only option that could truly ease his suffering? Knowing the signs of dehydration, I immediately recognized the cause of Earl’s problems with recovery. He was simply not drinking enough […]

Juicing and Skin Lightening: Can Juicing Help with Skin Whitening? The Real Deal?

There are many websites claiming to have juicing recipes that will effectively lighten the skin. The implication is that juicing is an effective way of gaining nutritional benefits. They claim that preparing drinks with supposedly natural skin lightening foods will naturally lighten the skin. Juicing recipes attributed to skin lighting include juices made from various fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Table of Contents1 Can Juicing Lighten the Skin?2 What Causes Dark Skin?3 Natural Skin Lightening Agents4 Vitamin C/Ascorbic Acid and Skin Lightening5 Arbutin and Skin Lightening6 Niacinamide and Skin Lightening7 Papaya, Papain, and Skin Lightening8 Licorice and Skin Lightening9 Mulberry and Skin Lightening10 Juicing and Skin Lightening11 Author Bio: Can Juicing Lighten the Skin? People who are interested in skin lightening often wonder if certain fruits in juice blends can be used to produce a lighter, more even complexion. The short answer to this question is yes. This does not mean that juicing will lighten the skin, though. This is primarily due to the way the body processes food and nutrients that enter the body through the dietary system and travel through the bloodstream. Once people consume these food and nutrients orally, various processes can occur and affect how quickly the […]

Make Your Mornings Bulletproof: A Guide for Tired Moms

Motherhood is an exhausting but fulfilling job. From running around after children to keeping the house in order, there always seem to be countless tasks that all need to be accomplished now, and too little time and energy to do it. As a mom, you often strive to take care of everything and always be at the right place at the right time. But no matter how hard you try, there may be times when you feel like you’re not good enough. However, you need to remember that it’s okay to not be perfect. After all, moms are human, too. With that said, you shouldn’t ponder too long about how big of a mess your house is and how incompetent you feel you are (because you’re not) — you must act on it and initiate change instead. And, believe it or not, change can begin from the most unexpected place. One thing you can do to make your days worthwhile is to rethink your morning routines. Milk’s Health Benefits, Allergies, and Alternatives

Drinking milk has been part of our lives since we were born. We drank our mother’s breast milk to nourish our fragile, little bodies. Even when babies have transitioned to toddlerhood, some mothers continue to breastfeed as long as their “liquid gold” can be produced. In my case, I only got to breastfeed my daughter for a few months because I wasn’t able to produce enough milk. It didn’t matter how many supplements I took or breast milk-boosting foods I ate. That is why I alternately gave breast milk and formula milk to my baby and shifted permanently to the latter. Thankfully, my daughter has no milk allergies or intolerances whatsoever. Even now that she is two-going-on-three-years-old, she sometimes prefers drinking milk to eating food (but she does eat meals every day). Most of the time, however, she drinks milk and then I just find her asleep on her bed. She really does love her milk Table of Contents1 Benefits of milk2 Milk improves your skin’s complexion3 Milk aids in muscle growth4 Milk may help in weight loss5 Milk may help you relax6 Milk helps prevent certain diseases7 What is Milk Allergy?8 Milk Allergy vs. Lactose Intolerance9 Milk Alternatives10 Soy […]

How To Eat Healthy When Camping

We all love camping from time to time especially when the weather is ideal. There are even people who go camping several times a year since it is an enjoyable experience. While camping it is paramount to eat healthy foods that will keep you energized. This is because while camping you will participate in an assortment of activities that will require energy. There will also be a change of environment from what you are used to, and as a result, your body should be well prepared for the changes. I learned about the importance of eating healthy while camping during my first camping trip. I was just sixteen, and I did not know much about camping. The entire camping trip was to last five days, and I thought I had prepared well. Little did I know that it takes more than just carrying the essential things to eat healthily and be comfortable when camping. During this particular trip, I had brought just snacks which I thought because they do not go bad easily would sustain me for the five days. I had also carried a moderate quantity of water because I did not want to move heavy things. I had […]

The Best Juices to Cure Your Hangover

A hangover is a really awful experience that should make you promise yourself not to drink anymore, but rarely does, or at least not for long. Hangovers range from just a tad bad to something for which you could end up needing medical treatment. Sadly, many of us can so easily forget how painful and embarrassing it was that we will end up with another hangover after a friend’s birthday celebration a month from now. My first hangover experience happened when I was in middle school. I was reviewing my notes for an exam when I got curious at the sight of a bottle of my uncle’s homemade fruit wine. I remember that the bottle had some orange pieces and raisins settling at the bottom and that it smelled sweet. I got a glass and poured it a quarter full, then enjoyed another three—or four; I can’t remember—servings of a similar size. I do recall that I wasn’t able to finish my review that night and that I felt very sluggish on exam day. I completed the exam as fast as I could, so I could excuse myself from the class afterward. I ended up with a score that was […]

A Delicious Juice to Help Relieve Headaches/Migraines

Have you ever had a headache or migraine that was so bad it ruined your day? How difficult was it for you to concentrate on work or spend quality time with loved ones when you were nursing a throbbing noggin? Terrible headaches and debilitating migraines might be more common than you think, but there’s a silver lining to that cloud. With so many people suffering from headaches and migraines, the medical community has developed numerous remedies that offer quick relief. For a long time, my first thought was to reach for an over-the-counter pill killer. I didn’t have time for a gym membership or a yoga class, I didn’t want to take a prescription, and everything else I was trying simply wasn’t working. Either way, something had to be done. So, I started doing some researching and I came across a simple recipe for a delicious juice that rapidly relieves migraines and headaches. Juicing got my attention because of the following reasons: It contains no drugs. It won’t interact with your medications. It’s extremely tasty. It’s easy to make. It gives your body a boost of much-needed nourishment. I was pleasantly surprised by how effective the migraine juice recipe was […]

How Juicing Helped Me to Get Over My Drug Addiction

Addiction is something that had taken over my life for 8 years. From the time I began doing drugs, at 15 years old until the time I stopped, at 23 years old, there wasn’t a day I didn’t think about getting high. Being clean over 7 years now, I still have days where I want to do drugs. The cravings never really go away. Yes, there are days which are easier than others, but the struggle is still there. I am still working my program and using the recovery tools I learned so many years ago. Out of everything I learned, there is one recovery tool that has helped me more than so many others and that is juicing. There are some amazing health benefits to juicing, not only physically but mentally and emotionally as well. I do have to admit, juicing is one of the things that helped me to get over my drug addiction. Infused Water: A Fab Way To Lose Weight or Just a Diet Fad?

I was not a fan of plain water before. Instead of drinking water, I would rather drink fruit juices to quench my thirst. Over sodas and fruit juice, I would prefer the latter, although I am aware that most commercial fruit juices are not really as healthy like the former. For me, fruit juice was the lesser evil between the two. When I started Intermittent Fasting months ago, it was the time I began to appreciate good ol’ plain water. It did quench my thirst – even better than drinking orange juice in carton packs. More importantly, water helped preempt my hunger pangs, and I felt guilt-free for the first time. I mean, pure water is 100 percent no sugar and other additives – just pure, satisfying liquid going into my system. And I loved that. For the first time, I actually felt healthy from the inside. We all know how important drinking water is for our health. There’s this never-ending reminder to drink eight glasses of water per day to stay hydrated. Then there are these other myths about water, which are proven to be all false. X And then, there’s infused water. Table of Contents1 What is infused […]

The Power of Juicing – And Why You Should Try It Now!

I am neither the healthiest nor the fittest person around. In fact, I actually weigh more than the recommended weight for my height – a very cutesy, petite 5’3. As for my actual weight… well, the weight-height ratio chart suggests that it is supposed to be within the recommended weight for 5’8 women. In other words, I am quite a bulky person, which is not ordinary. On second thought, my weight may be due to muscles and not fat (so much for wishful thinking). Despite my statistics, I can say that I am still generally healthy. I have normal blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels. I ‘go number two’ regularly and rarely get sick. I also get to exercise when I have the time, whether I go to the local gym, have my workout routines at home, do some household chores, or just playing with my 2-year old daughter around the house. I also do Intermittent Fasting (IF), which is basically more of an eating pattern rather than a weight loss tool. Nevertheless, IF helped me lose 14 pounds in less than two months – along with exercise (albeit not on a regular basis) and healthier food intake.  Obviously, […]

11 Amazing Healthy Benefits of Barley Grass Juice

Have you ever tasted barley juice? There are high chances that you haven’t. Although barley is always associated with beer brewing, there are much more credible nutrients this wonder plant can offer to humankind. Barley grass juice beats the renowned wheat grass squarely with a better taste, more nutrients, higher germination rate, and it does not contain gluten. 1200 Calorie Weekly Meal Plan for Good Health

So today I’m going to tell you a little about my fitness story, before we move on to figure out the perfect weekly diet plan for you. Before I started with my weight loss journey I used to eat whatever I could grab at the eleventh hour OR I would spend hours in the kitchen cooking the cheesiest mac’n’cheese I have ever eaten (which basically meant adding more cheese.) But then one day I realized that I’m probably accumulating quite a lot of fat when I stopped fitting in a size 16. This was nightmare for someone like me who has worn a size 10 through college. It was time for some serious introspection and figuring out where the problem lies. At first I thought, maybe it’s all the donuts and fudge brownies I binge-eat while binge-watching TV at long weekends, so I decided to cut ‘em out. Then I started to eat less and at a certain point I even starved myself. No matter how much effort I would make, the needle won’t move at all. I was getting more and more depressed with each passing days and my clothes were getting tighter. That’s when my friend told me […]

Five Super Foods for Glowing & Gorgeous Skin

Hello, ladies! Today we’re going to talk all about gorgeous, glowing & flawless skin. I’m sure all of you want a beautiful skin; it explains the collection of skin care items in your bathroom cabinets and on your dressing table, right? But are all of these various products worth it? Sure, they can be. In fact, some of the high-end regimens such as products by Goop and Kora (Miranda Kerr’s brand) can make a great difference. But these products usually aren’t very cheap, in fact not cheap at all. For some of us, they are simply not affordable. That is when these products need a sound replacement. And although the process of replacing these products can be a lengthy one, it’s well worth it. For this particular post, we will be discussing a selection of foods that I have found to be most helpful in countering skin problems and maintaining my usual skin care. I was so tired of buying all the semi-expensive products (that’s all I could afford) and expecting them to work. Sometimes they worked, sometimes I wouldn’t see a trace of difference in the quality of my skin and sometimes they would cause acne. The sheer unpredictability […]

The Ups (and Downs) of My Juice Cleanse

Dieting is all the rage right now, and has been for quite some time. I’m sure you’ve heard of keto and paleo, as well as other crash-diets, superfoods, and juice cleanses. And what I’m sure you’ve also heard regarding those fad diets is a bunch of very mixed and confusing reviews about each of them, depending on who you’ve listened to and whether or not they trying to push products associated with their respective diet. The truth is that all of our bodies are different, in genetic makeup, physical structure, and years of daily habits – so even if you do find a consistently positive response to any one diet that convinces you to try it, you have to be wary that it might not even work for your body type. Another truth is that many of the above diets are not designed for long-term use in general; while they each offer their own benefits to certain people, they are frequently misused because they are commonly marketed as a quick or easy weight-loss tool. I personally believe that it’s more important to make sure you have healthy habits and make good choices for your body every day before you throw […]

5 Lifestyle Changes to Make You Sleep Better, Live Healthier and Be Happier

Fighting the zombie effect We’re probably all familiar with the jaded, irritable feeling that comes after a bad night’s sleep. The physical craving for caffeine, the even more physical urge to kick your boss in the shins after another “Well, don’t you look peaky” quip and the overwhelming need to curl up into a little ball and nap those cobwebs away. When you’re under-rested, chances are that everyone around you knows about it. You wear your dark circles and red-rimmed eyes like a badge. Your inability to stop snapping at people sends them running in the other direction. You yawn so much it’s very possible that a case of lockjaw isn’t far away. “I am zombie, hear me roar!” you’d say. How I Made My Husband Stop Snoring

My husband is a very thoughtful, intelligent and hilarious man. He is quite lovable, but as he falls asleep at night, I start to loathe him. Well, you might be thinking why! Basically, he is entirely prone to snoring. This is the ultimate tectonic sort of snoring that would definitely make the walls rattle. So when I got to know that my husband has a snoring problem, I was quite sure that it was going to be a very big headache to deal with that problem. But at the beginning, I started taking it in my stead. Basically, I would wake up and hear him snoring. I would then tap him on the shoulder. He would definitely turn over and then seriously stop snoring, at least for a while. Sometimes if this occurred numerous times in just one night, he would complain. At last, I was the only one, who was continually losing her sleep. So, I felt that I had the right to speak up! I only wished I knew how to make it stop! I was completely blank, and I did not get any clues of how to stop this constant noise of snoring. But the day after, […]

6 Ingredients I Use in My Morning Juices

Morning juices have become a convenient way of providing the body with the daily requirements of vegetables and fruits while preventing midday cravings. For some people, nutrient-rich morning juices offer an excellent way to shed a few pounds, keep a youthful skin, and detox. Until a few years ago, my morning juice would be a blend of sweet fruits-bananas, pineapples, oranges topped up with a pawpaw. A glass of the morning juice was equally exciting as I always looked forward to preparing and drinking it. However, with all the fuss about taking green juices, I decided to give it a try. Of course, it wasn’t as sweet as the sweetened morning juices that I was used to, but since my goals for the next few months were all about detoxification, I decided to take the plunge. What’s more, my morning juice blend lacked the appropriate amount of fiber the body required.   Image source: Flickr Table of Contents1 Benefits of Taking Morning Juice2 Ingredients3 Instructions4 How the Ingredients Aid the Detoxification Process5 Kale Leaf6 Celery7 Parsley8 Collard Leaf9 Beetroot10 Pineapple/Apples11 Real Life Example12 Conclusion13 Author Bio: Benefits of Taking Morning Juice Most people still don’t appreciate the benefits that come […]

Health Benefits of Goldenseal

There are many wonderful, health benefits of goldenseal, although, its use is somewhat controversial. What is Goldenseal? Goldenseal (Canadian Barberry, Hydrastis canadensis) is a small perennial plant that grows between 6-12 inches. Since ancient times it has been considered a high rankiranih medicinal herb. The rootstock is thick and knotted. The stem is purplish. The goldenseal leaf is hairy with double-toothed lobes. Each plant produces a single orange-red berry and a small greenish white flower.[1] Goldenseal is native to North America, but is less common and populous than it used to be [2] due to excessive harvesting by humans. Long before the medicine has proven its health benefits, the native American peoples have used it too. It is now designated an endangered species by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.[1] The Native Americans used goldenseal extensively for medicinal purposes. [1,2] The Cherokee Indians used it to stain their faces and clothes yellow. This kept them from being identified as Native Americans. [2] Goldenseal can also be used to dye wool, silk and cotton.[2] The Cherokee also used it as a cure for cancer (in combination with other herbs) and later on the pioneers […]

Acute inflammation is the body’s primary line of defense against attackers. Without it, there is nothing that can help our immune system detect potential threats that can damage our overall health. But sometimes, our bodies get confused whether there is a real threat or not. This is when chronic inflammation begins. It is a low-grade inflammation happening all throughout the body, slowly damaging your cells and tissues. It is caused by a wide array of factors like poor diet choices, exposure to allergens and toxins, and even stress. Eating too much processed food, animal products, sugary treats, and other foods rich in trans fats can trigger this problem, as well as drinking too much alcohol. Aside from that, the health of your GI tract also plays a vital role in chronic inflammation. Over time, your body and immunity will grow tired and wear out. This leads to other chronic diseases and added health issues like allergies, irritable bowel syndrome, asthma, arthritis, diabetes and even cancer. You will also look years ahead of your real age as inflammation literally kills the healthy cells that […]

Paleo Muffins — the Muffin Evolution

Paleo muffins joke of the day… One day, an engineer was crossing a road and a frog caught his attention and called out to him. The frog said, “If you kiss me, I will turn into a beautiful muffin”. The engineer bent over and picked up the frog. The frog spoke up again from inside of his pocket and said, “If you kiss me and turn me into a tasty muffin, I’ll stay with you for one whole week.” The engineer took the frog out of his pocket, looked at it, smiled, and put it back to the pocket. The frog then spoke up again with a louder voice, “If you kiss me and transform me into a muffin, I will stay with you and do WHATEVER you want.” Again the engineer looked at the frog, and returned it into his pocket. Finally, the frog asked with an angry voice, “What is the matter with you? Haven’t I told you I’m a beautiful muffin. I’m ready to stay with you and do whatever you want. Why won’ t you kiss me?” The engineer said, “Look I’m an engineer. I don’t have time to eat a muffin, but a talking frog, […]

A recipe!6 Nothing can go wrong…can go wrong…can go wrong… Paleo bread with no grain-based flour – but it’s actually easier to work with… One of the wonderful things about eating a Paleo diet is the forgiving nature of things when baking any types of almond-based or coconut-based bread (there’s a Paleo bread recipe below). People often ask Is bread bad for you?.  Only if it’s grain-based, is the answer, I think back to the days of my Mum who seemed to be endlessly making sponge cakes and scones and whatever else. There was a certain “science” attached to whatever she did. Some things had to be: carefully folded others whipped eggs beaten, then added by making a well in the center dry ingredients sifted fruit cakes or wedding cakes dropped from a great height before cooking in order to level them (it’s true!!) And so it would go on! Even the temperature […]

THIS Is What Happens When Your Child Drinks Soda

Soda is among worst drinks you can consume. There is serious and compelling evidence out there confirming this – including a video of reporter Yunji DeNies drinking a 20-ounce glass of cola, which contains an equivalent of 16 teaspoons of sugar in the form of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). When you buy soda, you get water, a bit of flavor, and HFCS, which usually contains a mix of 45 percent glucose and 55 percent fructose. Recent investigations, though, have discovered that many brand-name sodas actually contain 65 percent fructose. With the help of a doctor, DeNies explains the effect of soda in your body. Once soda is consumed, your pancreas quickly starts to create insulin in response to the sugar. There is a quite rapid rise in blood sugar. The effects are as follows:   Within 20 minutes – Your blood sugar spikes. Your liver responds to the insulin burst by converting massive amounts of sugar into fat. Within 40 minutes – You completely absorb the caffeine. Your pupils dilate, your blood pressure rises, and your liver dumps more sugar into your bloodstream. DeNies had a blood glucose level of 79 at the outset of the experiment, but after […]

Everything About Beans

These legumes have been around for 7000 years … for very good reason.   Beans are not one of those vegetables that suffers from an image problem. Their significance is evident in the many popular words and phrases that have evolved around them in English and other languages – ‘full of beans’, ‘spill the beans’, and ‘beanfeast’, which means a lavish feast, to name a few.   The word ‘bean’ originally referred only to broad beans. It wasn’t until Greek and Roman times, and with the introduction of African varieties, that it got its botanical name, Phaseolus.   Essentially, there are two categories of fresh beans. There are those, such as green beans, that are eaten in their immature state in pod form, with barely formed beans. There’s also the type, such as borlotti beans, grown for the mature beans that are extracted from the pod. Borlotti beans, along with many others are also sold in dry form.   Originating in Central America, where they’ve been cultivated for 7000 years, beans were then spread north and south by native Americans – they are found wild in parts of Central and Southern America. With European exploration in the 15th century, the […]

What to Look for When Choosing a Commercial Juicer

This is a guest post by Jeff Breeden from CooksDirect.com. Whether you’re opening a juice bar, or if you plan to add more healthy fruit and vegetable juices to your menu, or even if you’ve got a large family or other close-knit group to supply with delicious juices, you need a powerful commercial juicer that can withstand the rigors of constant operation. Main Features and Benefits of Commercial Juicers Commercial juicers are capable of making large amounts of juice on a fairly continuous basis. In general, these juicers are designed to extract as much juice as possible from fruits and vegetables, leaving only dry pulp behind. This ensures you get a good return on investment and prevents excess waste. The type of juice you plan to serve determines whether you need a juice extractor that works with fruits and vegetables alike, or if a heavy-duty citrus juicer will do the trick. Some citrus juicers are capable of handling whole, unpeeled oranges, grapefruits, lemons, and limes. These juicers are best for operations offering pure organic juices, as you don’t want pesticides and other chemicals ending up in the juice you are serving to your customers. When comparing commercial juicer models, check […]

Raw Food Diets – The Benefits Nature Intended

You’ve most likely heard people talking about raw food diets and how beneficial they are for you, but did you ever wonder what exactly it is they are talking about? You might have pictured raw beef or oysters on your dinner plate – but that’s far from correct. If truth be told – a raw food diet is simply eating food in its natural, untreated state. You are, in essence, already on a partly raw food diet – If you snack on fruit and vegetables without cooking them. Unprocessed food, or raw food – is much better for you, since processing food deprives it of a lot the vital nutrients contained within it. You have almost certainly heard that cooking vegetables removes a lot of the vitamins and that it also destroys vital food enzymes. Packaged foods, like dehydrated potato powder to make mashed potatoes – have been processed in some way to create an easy packable meal. These packaged meals not only have little-to-none nutritional value, but your body simply can’t process these foods. If you consider raw foods as being natural foods, then it makes perfect sense that food in its raw state, are easier for our bodies […]

Eating Tasty Treats and Keeping Your Smile

My mum always warned me off eating too many sweets because my teeth would fall out if I stuffed too many of them in my mouth at once. Her warning didn’t quite come true but I guess I could have saved some money on my dentist’s bill for the last couple of decades if I had listened to her. Now that my own little girl is at an age in which chocolate is rapidly becoming the forbidden substance I decided to try and find another approach. Would I find healthy snacks that would keep her happy as well as keep her out of the dentist’s chair? Table of Contents1 Smart Pizzas2 Meaty and Healthy3 An Enticing Fruit Salad4 Oatmeal Biscuits Smart Pizzas Pizzas might not seem like the healthiest snacks around but it all depends upon how you make them. I buy some bases and lots of vegetables and then let my daughter build her own pizza. She seems to be especially fond of broccoli and cauliflower ones for some reason. She loves putting them together and while the kitchen always ends up looking like a disaster zone afterwards it keeps her occupied for a while and then gives her […]

The Dangers of the Juice Fast Fad

Dieting and fasting are two words that have wildly different meanings, but they are too often interchanged in day to day use and advertising. Sadly, this means that a lot of people get the wrong idea in their head about what a juice diet is and they end up on a juice fast, which is a very unsafe dietary practice. There are lots of different fasts being sold as a perfect diet solution guaranteed to shed pounds and improve health. I see them branded and masked as cleanses or diets, but it’s all the same medicine show whether you buy it in a nutrition store or sign up for one of the many monthly diet food delivery programs. Fasting is a flawed way to try and lose weight because it puts your body in survival mode and will actually shut down your metabolism. Your body thinks that you are starving and tries to conserve your energy reserves. Your body has good reason for reacting in this way because you are indeed staring yourself while on a fast and that comes with some potentially serious consequences. The most obvious consequence is nutritional. Unlike with a properly balanced juice diet, juice fasts […]

Finding the right foods to lower your cholesterol is easy and with just a few servings per day needed, these foods can easily be incorporated into your diet. When you’re looking to lower your cholesterol it’s important to first identify the “good” and the “bad” types of cholesterol. HDL-Cholesterol is the “good” kind. It helps sweep up the bad cholesterol and promptly transport it to the liver, where it is disposed of. LDL-cholesterol is the “bad” kind. Two servings of fish per week is all you need. Oats: oatmeal and other foods high in fiber The big deal with oats is they’re high in soluble fiber. Soluble fiber helps lower the amount of LDL that gets absorbed into your […]

Water Softener vs. Water Filter – How to Know What is Right for Your Family

Don’t sacrifice the health and well being of your family by purchasing a softening system. The following are four reasons why your home should use a water filter instead of a softener system. If you have experienced the frustration of bad-tasting water coming from your home faucet or the harmful effects hard water can have on your home, you may be looking for a home water softener system. These systems are known for providing better-tasting water and removing unsightly water spots from dishes and glass. However, there is more to water softeners than meets the eye. They are costly to maintain and use salt to replace minerals, which can be more harmful than helpful. For this reason, many people have changed their search for a softening system, and instead are looking for a water filter for their household needs. The following are four reasons why your home should use a water filter instead of a softener system. Just add salt – Water softeners require significant amounts of salt to work properly. This salt not only adds up in cost over time, but can also add more sodium to your beverages at home. Whole-house water filters, such as those made by […]

Juicing to Get Lean

Ironically with all of the jokes made about Jack Lalanne and his juicer over the years and it turns out that the dude was right. Juicing is one of the best diet options available these days. The ability to combine so many nutrients into a simple shake can make juicing a cornerstone for a great diet plan to help create healthier you!  Controlled Appetite – One reason people overeat is due to the stomach telling the brain […]

Rethinking Water – How to Make the Most of the Water in Your Life Today

We all know that water is the most important—and most abundant—substance in the human body. The average human being can go quite a while without food, but without clean, healthy water, our internal systems begin to break down and we won’t survive more than a few short days. It’s important to apply this thinking not just to our own health and body but to our entire home environment as well. Water is not just the source of life beneath our skin; it is also the medium that facilitates most of our important domestic activities. Many of us take care to ensure that the only water that enters our body is clean and pure, but this is usually where that proactive mentality stops. Taking Water for Granted Virtually, everything in a house is affected by the water that passes through its pipe system. Water is used for: • drinking, • food preparation, • cleaning practices, • gardening, • recreational activities, and • so much more! However, we don’t really think about how that water is affecting and interacting with the elements involved in those functions and activities, nor do we often stop to think what might happen if that supply of […]
